Sustainable Interior Designs to Make your Home Look like a Movie Set – Part 3: Eat Pray Love

We are back with the third and last instalment of our series on how to sustainably decorate your home like a movie set. The final part highlights home decorating ideas we can pick from the 2010 biographical romantic drama film “Eat Pray Love” starring Julia Roberts.

Taking inspiration from the movie “Eat Pray Love”

Liz Gilbert’s global adventure to self-discovery takes her to plenty of locations inspired by earth, air, fire, and water. We see lots of exotic decors from rattan and wicker home furnishings, natural wood four-poster beds, to reclaimed wood furniture.

Interior design ideas to learn from it:

Lightweight, flexible, and yet sturdy, rattan is a great alternative to make outdoor furniture. While wicker cannot be used to make furniture, it is ideal for making baskets, privacy screens, serving trays, storage trunks, and more.

Reclaimed Wood Furniture

Wood that has been taken from an old structure and reused for something else is known as reclaimed wood. This wood is taken from railway sleepers, warehouses, storage containers, wine barrels, and etc. Since the wood was cut down decades ago, its grain is generally dense. Hence, the wood is less prone to cracking and chipping. Reclaimed wood can be used to recreate wooden flooring or furniture, such as wardrobes, cabinets, dining sets, and coffee tables.

Rugs

Rugs are extremely decorative and provide the feeling of a cozy shelter. You can hang them on walls or lay them on the floor to make for extra seating space. You can opt for handmade Indian and Persian rugs and carpets adorned with decorative motifs or geometric patterns.

Other Considerations

  • Granite and marble are a great alternative to metal countertops. You can also use them for flooring as both keep the temperature down and are not easy to wear.
  • Shop from brands like MiradorLife that offer sustainable, eco-friendly home furnishings. Products from such brands are safe for the environment as well as your health.
